Authorities identified the armed intruder fatally shot by a homeowner in San Jacinto

SAN JACINTO, Calif. — Authorities have identified the armed intruder fatally shot by a homeowner during a home invasion on June 5 as 45-year-old Ismael Martinez of San Jacinto. According to investigators, Martinez allegedly assaulted his 52-year-old girlfriend with a knife prior to the incident. The woman was later found inside a vehicle near the scene and was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in stable condition. The investigation revealed that the homeowner was visiting a neighboring residence when he heard screaming and gunfire coming from his home on Heron Way. After returning to the residence, he encountered Martinez inside the home armed with a shotgun. Authorities said Martinez fired multiple rounds at the homeowner during the confrontation. The homeowner returned fire, striking Martinez, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators stated there is no indication that Martinez or his girlfriend had any connection to the residence targeted in the home invasion. No arrests have been made, and the case will be submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review. The investigation remains ongoing.
